About

American Book Design is a design company that produces digital and print publications. Production started in 2000 and we have been going strong ever sense. Our company works closely with subcontractors all over the country to offer complete publishing services. 

What a great career I have had so far. I started my career as a proofreader and have advanced to an experienced book, graphic, and website designer. I have worked in the publishing industry since 1988 and specialize in college books, such as math, nursing, and chemistry. I have had the privilege of working with, and learning from, some of the biggest publisher in the industry. I have worked as an in-house employee, remote employee, and as a remote contract worker. I am the proud owner of a home-based graphic design company, American Book Design (ABD). 

In 2019, since the publishing industry had shifted from print to digital media, I decided to go to college to update my skills to the newest software available and become more diverse. My goal was to save the career I so loved by transforming my book layout experience into website layout, coding, and graphic design. I obtained an AAS in graphic communications and a certificate in web design and coding from Iowa Western Community College in 2021. 

In 2021, I enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) to pursue a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and media arts with a concentration on website design. I will graduate in April of 2024. Before college, I had a tremendous amount of training in Adobe InDesign and now I am fully trained in many Adobe products, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I am extremely grateful for my new education and my skills are now in line with being a website designer, graphic design, and book designer.

I volunteer setting up websites for religious nonprofits and helping friends and family with their design needs. Out of all my skills, I love being a graphic designer the most. It is very rewarding to create new graphics from scratch and call them my own creation. My true passion is creating children’s books with lots of original graphics. 

I have combined my graphic and book design skills to create children's books. This year I will publish a new series call Two x Two - Noah’s Friends. These books will include all original artwork and text, and I am excited about my first publication. 

It does not matter what I work on, it never feels like work. I absolutely love my career!
